Welcome To St Vincent Religious Education (RE)
We at St. Vincent Pallotti Church are committed in helping our children know the love of God through Jesus Christ and the joy of celebrating that love. Our goal is to provide a solid foundation so our children can express why they are Catholic and what Catholic's believe. We treasure the vibrant life of the children in our parish and see them as images of Chirsts' presence in us.

Goals & Objectives
St. Vincent's Religious Education program educates students to strengthen and develop personal love for Jesus Christ by growing in a meaningful prayer life and understanding of Catholic beliefs, worship and moral teachings.
Registration
RE registration has started for the 2011-2012 school year. If you haven't registered yet, there are now two different ways to register. You can go by the office to pick up a registration form and fill it out and return it to the RE Coordinator or now, for your convenience we have an online registration form you can complete and the completed form will be emailed to our RE Coordinator. Whether you fill out the online form or fill it out by hand, the RE Coordinator must have the completed form and all applicable fees by September 7, 2011. THIS DEADLINE IS SET AND NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE DUE TO THE FACT THAT BOOKS MUST BE ORDERED IN TIME TO HAVE THEM PRIOR TO CLASSES STARTING.
Fees
Fees are $15.00 for each student, $20.00 for each student making their sacraments and $60.00 per family with 4 or more children. The $60.00 fee applies to immediate family members only!. All fees are due with your registration forms by September 7, 2011. If you are not able to pay the fee by September 7th, arrangements must be made with the RE Coordinator, Rosita Priest before September 7th, 2011. These fees must be paid in order for our children to have books. The church makes every effort to cover some of the costs of the books and supplies needed throughout the year, but unfortunately we cannot cover the entire cost.
Class Times
Classes will begin on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 and will end on Wednesday, May 9, 2012.
Class schedules will be as follows:
- Pre-K through 5th grade: 6:00pm to 7:00pm
- 6th grade through 12th grade: 7:15pm to 8:30pm
Class locations will be as follows:
- Pre-K through 3rd grade: Pan American Hall
- 4th grade through 8th grade: Whelan Hall (1st Session)
- 9th grade through 12th grade: Whelan Hall (2nd Session)
Arrival
We are limited to the amount of time we have the children in class and every minute is important, so please try to drop your children off so that they are in their classroom at the scheduled class start time. Students SHOULD NOT arrive any earlier than 10 minutes prior to the scheduled class start time. Many of our RE teachers have full time jobs and are not able to arrive any earlier. Students need to be picked up as soon as their class is over! Many children are being picked up late and this is causing problems starting our high school classes on time.
Class Attendance
Regular attendance is a serious parental obligation. Irregular attendance may cause the student to miss important lessons and may result in lack of enthusiasm for religious education. Sacrament students are only allowed two absences.
Class Cancellation/Inclement Weather Policy
Class will usually be cancelled if the Abilene Independent School District is closed. Many times we don't know how the weather will be until late in the afternoon. Please remember when we cancel classes due to weather we are doing it for the safety of the children, teachers and staff. Please check your local TV channels for cancellation postings for weather or any type of emergency situation. Now you may also check this website for cancellations. If classes are to be cancelled this website will be updated to show only a cancellation notice.
Sacrament Preparation Classes
There will be two mandatory meetings for parents whose children will be receiving their sacraments in 2012. The meetings are scheduled for Wednesday, September 21, 2011 at 7:00pm and Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at 7:00pm. Both meetings will be held in Whelan Hall. The parents and children MUST attend both meetings. There will be a retreat held on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm in the Pan American Hall. The children will receive their sacraments on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at the 6:30pm mass. The children MUST be at the church by 5:45pm. Children receiving sacraments must have attended RE last year and must be attending mass regularly. Please view the RE Calendar to find all the Sacrament Preparation events.
Volunteers
We encourage parents to assist in the educational process by volunteering as teachers, aides, substitute teachers, party volunteers and parking lot attendants. Your presence and enthusiasm create an excellent means of reinforcing the value of Catholic education in the community. Please call the office, Rosita Priest at (325) 280-9059 or fill out the online volunteer form to let us know how you can help.
Communication
Good communication between the home and religious education program is essential in serving the needs of your children. We ask that the parents please talk to the RE Coordinator if a problem arises in your child's classroom. Remember if we don't know we can't help. Any compliant, concern or question needs to be discussed with e RE Coordinator first. If the RE Coordinator cannot fix the problem it will then be elevated to Father Terry. You can contact the RE Coordinator, Rosita Priest at (325) 280-9059 or call the office and leave a message and a call will be returned to you that evening.
